tired boy

Or maybe a more appropriate title would have been, "tired boy and parents." After nearly a year of being out of his crib and in his own bed, Will has finally figured out he can get out of his room. Now, at all hours of the night, he is entering our room and wanting to get in our bed. The answer so far has been a resounding NO! So, because of these late night visits, it has made for some pretty tired parents and one tired boy. We're not quite sure how to "fix" this problem. I'm not above locking him in his room, however, the door to his room doesn't latch- so that's out of the question. Anyone have any words of wisdom to pass our way?

Kat, it seems Will is simply following in Andrew's footsteps. We, too, battled this dilemma for what seemed like months when he would come into our room between 1-4 a.m. and scream and cry to get into our bed. We may sound harsh but we consistently said "No" to him. It worked and he now either stays in his bed all night or comes to us so we can cover him up on the couch. I've even made a pallet on the floor next to my side of the bed and that worked for a while, too. It just takes time for him to mature a little bit and understand that you're not gonna change your mind. Be consistent and firm! Most times I just wanted to get back to sleep and let him have his way but I never got good sleep with a little one between me and Hubby. This too shall pass!

I've heard of people installing latches on the outside of the door OR using those door knob thingys that turn funny...but not sure how that would work.
